Corvallis Riverfront Park Design Election - Letter
to Editor
August 27, 2000
Editor, Corvallis Gazette-Times
Access Benton County is a local organization dedicated to the
accessibility of disabled individuals to all local facilities. Our members have
spent the last two years working with the Riverfront Commission, city engineers
and the river front designers to assure that the needs of the disabled are met.
First Street must remain a through street in order to provide
close parking for people using wheelchairs as well as those individuals with
limited walking ability, including those using canes or crutches. First Street
must also remain open to cars in order to be able to drive around the block
to find the limited number of disabled parking places.
We believe that the new Friends Of The Riverfront plan is confusing.
The inability to be able to drive will prevent the disabled community the necessary
accessibility to use and enjoy the river front. We urge you to support the City
of Corvallis plan and vote NO in the September 19th election.
Adopted at the August 17, 2000 meeting.
